I was privileged to celebrate my 27th birthday with my dear friend Nada in Four Seasons Tented Camp Resort in Chiang Rai. The experience was spectacular to say at least, from approaching the hotel in small authentic boats to seeking the way to the reception area, through the bamboo jungle which takes you to the reception area where you will be served with Lemongrass Ice Tea, hot towels, and delicious snacks.
THE SUPERIOR TENT
You can choose between the superior tent, deluxe tent and two bedroom explorer lodge. We stayed in the superior tent which blew my mind with its furnishing and details. Touches I loved the most include:
- The handmade local hill-tribe elephant plush toy which you are supposed to leave on the bed to signalize you want your sheets changed.
- The elephant coffee mug which was next to the coffee machine and the minibar.
- Binoculars on the bed table that you can use while you are spending time on the terrasse, to observe the baby elephants during them morning stroll in the jungle.
- Beautiful elephant themed bed pillows and the baldachin.
FOOD
You can enjoy anything that comes to your mind when you stay in Four Seasons, and we wanted to try as much as we could possibly fit into our stomach during our stay. You can choose between the Camp Peak, an early-morning breakfast as the sun rises from behind the mountains of Laos, classic room service or picnic in style. When it comes to lunch I would highly recommend you enjoy delicious local food in Nong Yao restaurant where you can taste the best of Thai, Laotian, Burmese and Western cuisine. Pay special attention to the local cutlery used to serve breakfast and lunch here, which is also made by local hill-tribes. When it comes to dinner, expect nothing less than elegant porcelain dishes and glassware, typical upscale Four Seasons experience. Breakfast recommendations include the bircher muesli, banana pancakes, and local desert mango sticky rice! For lunch, I would go for pad thai or ask for chef’s recommendation of the day!
BURMA BAR
Before dinner, it is time to hit the bar for drinks and enjoy the sunset. In the Burma bar, you will find some cool trekking and navigation equipment, maps, books, and tribal antiques. You simply must try their signature Lemongrass Martini which is the most delicious cocktail I’ve had in my life.
You will be served with delicious local snacks and finger food, tapas style. They also have an impressive whiskey collection and do come here before the sunset to take the best spot overlooking Burma and the Ruak River!
SPA TIME
The smell of lemongrass tea, flower petals from the giant tub overlooking the bamboo jungle and the sounds of birds makes this the most authentic spa experience in my life. We enjoyed the foot massage and the Mahout recovery treatment.
We got to choose between 3 body oils, and I picked the relaxing one.
- Energizing: a blend of kaffir lime, lemongrass, and lavender
Benefits: Increases circulation, stimulates adrenal glands, soothes the body and mind, reduces cellulite, relieves stress and fatigue and combats itchiness. - Sensual: a blend of ylang-ylang and jasmine
Benefits: Stimulates the senses, improves mood, relaxes the mind and emotions, increases feminine energy and softens the skin. - Relaxing: a blend of tangerine and sandalwood
Benefits: An uplifting and grounding oil that induces relaxation, and gently stimulates the nervous system.
When it comes to experience, the highlight of my trip was bathing the elephants and serving them bananas for breakfast. Elephants were so lovely and well trained, this experience was a true highlight of my trip to Thailand!
WINE TASTING
The wine tasting was also much fun in the wine cellar where you can experience some of the world’s finest wine and cheese collection. Sommelier was a very knowledgeable lady who shared stories about the wines we tasted and gave us the best tips on how to best serve it at home, with which food and in which glasses.
GOLDEN TRIANGLE
Golden Triangle excursion was also so much fun! We enjoyed the ride in the longboat which took us to the heart of the Golden Triangle, where Thailand, Burma, and Laos converge! Later we enjoyed the ride in a tuk-tuk, a trip to a vibrant local food market and meeting a young Budha in Chedi Luang ancient temple.
